Politics…
The majority of the Australian public seems to believe that currently politics and government is broken and permanently dysfunctional. This current state appears to be blamed solely on politicians. Whilst it is true that the Government is experiencing levels of internal turmoil it is nowhere near dysfunctional as portrayed or commonly imagined as evidenced by the amounts of successful legislation passed by the Parliament. The vast majority of those who see the Government and politics as terminally in malaise do not engage or take an interest in political discourse to any great extent. It every persons civic duty to engage and take an interest in the governance of society. It seems to be the prevalent belief in society that is purely up to politicians to attract the public’s attention and promote their policies and belief’s. This belief merely encourages spin over substance and merely increases the power and strength of vested interest. If people want better governance more responsive to their views, needs and beliefs they must engage with politics instead of passively complaining.
